Rear Coil Spring Broken

730 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  SpaceSputnik
Hey All.

2013 base V6 with 100.000 km.

One of my rear springs is broken off at the very top. Will have my mechanic put new OEM springs in tomorrow, so all good there.
However, wondering. Is it a common occurrence and is it limited to the rear usually? I had a front coil fail on a 2004 Camry at around the same age (but higher mileage) and it was a hassle to get it all fixed properly. Seems like on Sienna's rear it's not as big a deal overall to fix, but certainly hope not to have it happen on the front.

Any other info/experiences for this context will be appreciated too.

Thank you.

Never heard of a front coil failing on a Sienna, but we did have a rear coil fail as well. We changed both of them. Good call having your mechanic do it - it was a pain wrangling them into place.

Awesome, thanks, good to hear.
Bought my 2013 LE with 133K from a Toyota dealer, less than a week later one of the rear coils broke. They replaced both under warranty since I had driven it maybe 100km at that point. Did not appear to be corrosion related, was a clean break. (my van is very clean, no rust) This one broke near the bottom of the coil.

One front coil spring and one rear coil broke on my 2007 Sienna within six months of each other. The front coil snapped while I was in the van waiting for my wife to finish her shopping. It was a loud thud but at the time I couldn't figure what happened until a week later when I was rotating my tires. At this time my van had around 110k miles. I do live in the mid-west rust belt and every summer I'd take it on road trips fully loaded with kids and gear. I don't know if the combination of weight and rust caused it or not. I replaced all four springs with Toyota springs. The shocks and struts with KYBs. I now run air bags in the rear and bigger SUV tires. I have since found out about Fluid Film and use it to keep the rust at bay.

One front coil spring and one rear coil broke on my 2007 Sienna ...
I think this is what happened on my 04 Camry. I was pulling up a driveway, loud bang. Clunking noise after. Tried Monroe Quickstruts, it was awful. It sat way too high and was clunking so I ended up mixing and matching their struts, oem springs and mounts. Went back and forth with my mechanic a bunch of times. Sold shortly after this car had an un-toyota like amount of problems.
The rear coils on the Sienna seem more straightforward to deal with.
