Rear entertainment HDMI rant

I've had it with the rear entertainment system in my 2023 Platinum, which is second only to the glitchy CarPlay and poor quality multipurpose display. Anyway, I've tried a genuine Apple adapter with a good HDMI cable and it works maybe 10% of the time. I've tried a new iPad and multiple newer iPhones. Incredibly disappointing for being one of the core features of this several thousand dollar trim level. Has anyone found a magic combination of cables or iOS settings to get this to work with Apple devices?

I understand Toyota may have done focus group research suggesting that families don't use the RES, everyone can just use their own devices. I have a special needs child who has a hard time navigating and holding a device.

It has been a while since I hooked our apple devices. I have lightning to HDMI adopter. I don't recall what all Apps I tried.

I suggest you get a decent Samsung phone with MiraCast/SmartView. It is super easy to work with. No wires or anything needed. Just Samsung SmartView. FWIW, I have some very very old phones like S4, S7, Note 10 that all work flawlessly. I would say may be look for one on EBay? Samsung's entry level phones and tablets don't seem to have "SmartView" so make sure what you get has "SmartView" built-in from top pulldown.
