hi everyone. this is my first post but i've been a member for a while now, just lurking ;) . I have a questions for the experts here. I just replaced my rear shocks with KYB Excel G. It came with installations hardware and bushings. When I removed the old shock I noticed that some bolts that came with the new shocks is not the same as the one on the car. The lower mounting bolts to be exact. It is welded and uses only one washer bolt. Do I reuse the existing bolts, should I put thread lock on it? I notice it wasn't that tight when the removed the bolts. Below is the hardware that came with the new shock. I only used the bushings and the bolts for the top part.

Thanks and this forum really helped me a lot with my van.

See the pics in "2000 Sienna rear lower shock mounts replacement" thread. I did the exact same job on my Sienna but ended up replacing the lower shock mount studs. Although the bolts you mention come out easily, the actual stud that the shock rides on is welded on, as you have noticed. The hardware that comes with the shocks is useless for the lower mounts. If the studs are worn or corroded away, you have to grind off the welds, drive out the studs, and install regular bolts. At least, that was the only solution I could think of.

I reused the old bolts on the rear shocks at the bottom, but had to use the new nuts on the shocks at the top.

thank you all. that's what I did, reuse the bottom bolt and used all the new hardware for the top but I keep check it if after a long drive if it gets loose. I did torque it to spec and it is holding quite good. it's just it was so easy when I removed the bolt. I know it should be tightened too much because it will damage the new bushings.

thanks again for the help.
