Just want to make sure nothing wrong with our van.

When dropping off someone van needs to be in Park before sliding door will open.
So expected similar when in Reverse.

BUT recently while in garage I opened one of the sliding door to put something. I forgot to close and got into van to back out of garage.

Even with sliding door open I was able to put into Reverse and only reason I stopped was because when looked over left shoulder realized I was not seeing side of garage as usual because sliding door open and obstructing view. Luckily did not scratch door.

Would have thought that if can't open sliding door unless in Park then should not be able to Reverse with sliding door open?? Guess that is not required as a safety feature.

Just don't remember if started van before or after opening sliding door??

On my 3rd gen same thing. They won't open when moving (at least with the power door buttons, but presumably you could still manually open them while driving if the child locks were off). But there's no issue driving with them open. It'll start beeping at you after a few seconds if they aren't closed I believe. I suspect this is on purpose. Imagine if the door switch goes bad. If they lock out drive if the door is open, and the door switch fails, then you'd end up stuck.

I've never had a vehicle that would refuse to drive because a door would open. All (except my 1978 Jeep Wranger) indicate a door is open with some sort of door warning light, and most (if not all) also start beeping if you drive and a door isn't shut. But none of them have ever locked the car in park because a door was open.

You can move with them open, and close them while you’re moving. That’s all normal behavior.
On my 2014, I can only close them while moving if travelling at a few MPH or less. Any faster and the power door system refuses to start closing. If you start closing then start driving faster it won't stop but will finish closing the door.

Makes me wonder if there is a maximum speed limiter with the doors open. Curious if we can drive this van like a Huey helicopter.
Hmm...I want to try this. I wish the sliding door went all the way to the driver's seat though.
