First road trip using Thule Motion XT Rooftop Cargo Carrier (XXL - 22 cu ft) on my 21 Sienna. It's attached to the OEM roof rails. I noticed the roof rails were bending a bit on bumpy roads, as well as when traveling at higher speeds (> 70 mph). Is this expected?
Don't have exact measurement of the weight in the box, but I imagine it was around 75lbs (camping gear: tents, sleeping bags, etc), and adding 55 lbs for the Thule, should be under the 150 lbs limit of the rails. I also tried moving the heavier items to the middle/front/front but it didn't really make a difference.
Questions:
1) Is the roof rail bending/bouncing expected?
2) Do you think the bending is due to weight? Under normal operation it's not bending at all
3) Any tips on how to stop it from bending like that? I'm thinking of adding a strap to tie down the front to the roof rack.
