With the most popular Thule brand rooftop boxes costing much more nowadays, along with their lack of availability, I am on the hunt for other rooftop cargo boxes to use on our 2022 Sienna. What has everyone used and how did you like it?

They definitely impact gas mileage. A little online research turns up some reports saying as much as a 6-7 mpg hit at interstate speeds but be prepared for at least a 2-3 mpg drop. Streamlined versions are naturally better but they all take a toll.

Yep, I’ve seen about a 2mpg decrease with our Thule Motion XT XXL on top.

REI has them for $850 right now which is less than I paid for it in January.

I have a 15cu ft Roofbag but haven't used in on the 2022. It's shaped like a box for even worse fuel economy, but much cheaper at less than $100. mine is stored in a hot garage and a few pieces of external black coating flaked off after a couple of years.

Personally I like Yakima brands due to them honoring lifetime warranty. I've had issues and they replaced their products. If you are looking for another good brand check out Inno Racks. I have not used their products but they appear well built.

wait really? Where are you seeing this? I was just on their site a few days ago and they charge $1150.
My bad - I quoted the price for the Force XT XXL ($850), you are correct the Motion XT XXL is more ($1050). Looks like the Force holds a little more gear, but I can’t vouch for that one. We love our Motion box.

I bought mine from direct from Thule and paid full price, $1050. The freight delivery company damaged the box in transit, I called up Thule. Real person answered the phone, got the replacement authorized in 5 minutes. They sent a new box the same day + free expedited shipping (through a different company) because our road trip departure date was rapidly approaching. I went from being pissed to pleased quickly.

Got my hopes up! Lol
By any chance, we’re you ever able to see the XXL in person anywhere? If so, where?
I believe REI has the XL but really wanna see if the size difference is worth it.

I was not. I saw the XL in person and almost pulled the trigger on that. If not for others on Sienna Chat that bought it first to make sure it fits, I wouldn’t have gone with the XXL. Ultimately, I thought it was worth it because I didn’t want to need more space down the road and regret not going a little bigger.

I have a Yakima box. You are correct that they are expensive but they are solid! Mine is over 10 years old and still going strong. The rear hinge broke, and Yakima sent me a new hinge kit free of charge.
My Yakima roof box was also over 10 years old and lock on one side broke few years ago. I called Yakima to see if I can get repair part, but they sent me a brand-new equivalent rack instead without any fee!!

Roof rack caused ~2mpg drop in gas mileage on long highway drive from Sacramento to LA (I maintain gas mileage log for 8 years now). In recent years, I use hitch rack instead because it won't affect gas mileage drop and can carry more staff than roof rack.

Update: We bought the JEGS cargo box and are very happy with it. We used it for a road trip and it protected our beach supplies just fine. Sure it’s not the quality you would get from a Thule or Yakima, but for under $300 we are very happy with it.
