So after waiting just under a year our new 23 Platinum has just arrived at the dealer. They are trying to sell rustproofing and paint protection. Any input on whether this is worth it? We live in the midwest and road chemicals are brutal here during the winter months.

Each to his own but no way I buy half the shit dealers try and peddle.
Rustproofing is a great idea. I do mine yearly and I know it works, my vehicles are proof of that, but usually the crap dealers sell is worthless.
And what is this miracle paint protection they apply and does it have some sort of warranty with it?

I would ask around local shops first before making commitment with dealer.
Ex: dealership want $499 plus tax for a remote start on my van. Reputable local shop only does it for $299 and with 3 year’s warranty too.

I got shafted by a $500 Toyota Paint protection add on by the distributor. Its basically a crappy wax and 3m interior fabric guard.
For $500 you can get a ceramic coat or a entire front clear bra that is much better.
For Rust proofing , I use Fluid film or Surface blaster every year or two.

Living in the Midwest, rust protection (and maybe even paint protection) is definitely a good idea HOWEVER, as a former salesman I can tell you that what the dealer sells is GROSSLY overpriced. You can get same or even better products when you do a little research and go aftermarket.

No rust on my 2004. We live in north central Iowa where like to use plenty of salt. We go to Minnesota once in awhile and when we get back our van has changed from red to white because of the salt. We had an VW Rabbit and had it rustproofed with only 30 miles on it. One year in Wisconsin and the we had rust big time.
I just take a little extra time at the car wash and give the rockers, wheel wells and underside a generous rinsing at the car wash. Two coats of Nu Finish in the fall and that's it. I haven't seen much rust on Toyotas around unless they are really old and have been neglected.
