I have found many posts on Siennas NOT starting. But nothing that has helped me so far, because my van starts, but most electrical doesn't work. We have a 2002 Sienna and have left it parked for a while, only starting it up every week or so to warm it up and keep the battery charged. Well, we failed to maintain that tempo and let the battery die. So, I bought another battery since that one wouldn't stay charged. I had the battery tested-it was bad.
I first thought it was the alternator, since there was a tell-tale pulsing of the lights when the vehicle was running that indicated surging in electrical power. Installed new alternator and new battery. Had the old alternator tested and it was good. So, I reinstalled the old alternator. Van drove great. I took it up to the drive through car wash, since I am cleaning it to sell it.
Everything seemed fine and everything worked. I opened the moonroof a bit to check it, and promptly closed it before I went into the car wash. No sooner than the moonroof was closed (I still was pressing the close button) and POOF!!! All electrical went dead. The dash, the clock, the radio, the moonroof, etc. However, the van was still running. I was in line to go into the automatic car wash, so I did. And then I drove the van home with nothing working-no lights, no dash, no speedometer, etc.
I began troubleshooting. The only thing I found (and I can't believe I did this!... I didn't plug in the alternator when I reinstalled the original alternator and drove the van to the wash and back). So, I installed both electrical leads to the alternator.
I have checked all fuses and relays I can. Only 1 blown (15A Pwr Vent) and I replaced it.
Currently working: door chime, dome lights, headlights, Flashers, horn. Basically, everything I can see that can pull from battery alone.
Currently NOT working: everything else.

But the vehicle starts and runs well.

I'm at a LOSS!!! What can this be?

circus says "check ALL your fuses and relays", particularly under hood. I concur with circus 100%. I'll have to go look at mine, but if I remember correctly there's a fuse or relay for gauges, etc...

To update everyone that reads this thread. I found the problem and fixed it quickly. I rechecked all of the fuses and tested the relays that I could test. The only two fuses I did not actually pull and test were the 140A ALT and 100A INP fuses on the main fuse block (Y'know, those types of fuses you never really have to change because they stay good the life of the vehicle). The reason I didn't pull them was you actually have to disassemble the fuse block since those two buggars are bolted in. So, one disassembled fuse block later, I discovered the 140A ALT was blown. A quick drive to the local Toyota dealership later and the Sienna was soon purring like a kitten once again!
