Just got my 2022 Sienna LE, and I'm so disgusted that it isn't standard to provide homelink for the garage door opener. A zillion buttons in this car, and I have to carry around a garage door opener? Unbelievable.

Tip: I think you can just buy the mirror with the homelink feature. Maybe you wanna go that route. Or a cheaper and more modern alternative is to get a MyQ device and control the garage door with a phone app. I like MyQ coz it keeps me informed if my garage door is opened or closed even if i am away. More modern versions even have a camera.

I order a new frameless mirror with homelink from Bob's mirrors. He sells mirrors that are plug and play for our sienna using the accessory harness above the center lights. Here is the thread about it.

Another route is to do it yourself. When i was researching homelink mirrors, this was another option i was thinking about doing. Buy a homelink mirror yourself and just splice the wires to use the accessory harness. You can possibly even buy the OEM mirror from higher trims or other toyota vehicles if you want to keep the OEM style. I learned too that one of the Tacoma gen homelink mirrors uses a battery so no wires required but would have to buy a whole new mirror once the battery is dead if you like that idea.

I decided to just order from Bob's mirrors. Just easier plug and play.

Wow! I don't understand how ANY car with power windows in the last 15+ years, wouldn't include Homelink. (Or cruise control in some vehicles.)

Does reaching up to press a button on a remote clipped to the visor instead of reaching for a Homelink button really qualify as disgusting or unbelievable? It's just about the most minor cosmetic difference I can think of. I've had cars with Homelink and without, the ones with just happened to come with the trim but I'd avoid paying for it if possible. Gadgets for gadgets sake is clearly no my thing.

Why give it free when there are lots of people (America esp) willing to pay for it. Just look at our healthcare, and medicine prices. Sorry to digress.

Go to eBay and search HOMELINK.... even if they are used they are pretty hardened to daily use.

Make sure you buy one that has the oval button plate.

And try to get one with 2 wires. And one that is not one over 8 years old. because most garage door openers now are Rolling Code

My 2022 Tesla Model Y doesn't come with HomeLink. You can buy it for $300 but I haven't bothered. So I use the clicker. My Sienna does have HomeLink but since it's parked outside it's not used. I also don't even program it because being outside it's a security risk in that anyone who breaks in could open your garage door.

I still think every car these days should come with it and people can decide to use it or not. It definiately is not a $300 cost at the time of building a $30,000+ car.

And yes it is a security risk but I never remember to bring in the clicker when I leave a vehicle outside and that is the same risk. I imagine that is extremely common too.

I definitely agree that cars should come with it! My $60k Model Y didn't, which is ridiculous.

For the Sienna, we simply don't put a clicker in it. When I want to open or close the garage door, I just use the MyQ app to control the door.

And then the next guy thinks something else should be standard and the next guy something else. Personally, I find it quite surprising a 2022 base L Highlander FWD, stickering at $37,100 doesn't include blind spot detection nor is it an option. To me, that's the most valuable of the various "smart" safety features. A 2023 Kia Forte GT-Line @ $22,785, to take just one example, includes it. Go figure.

On the other hand, we've come to find Kia and Hyundai did not include engine immobilizers in models prior to 2021. There have been videos circulating showing how easy it is to steal them if a door is left unlocked followed by videos of idiot youth joy riding them.

Different strokes for different folks, all part of the automotive rich pageant.;)
