"In a statement on Tuesday, Toyota said the semiconductor shortage would force it to reduce worldwide output by 150,000 units in February to about 700,000 vehicles. Toyota put the blame for the February downturn on the ongoing microchip crisis."

I am glad mine is set to arrive in 16 days. Supply constraints will continue and prices will likely stay high or go higher. Good luck to all still trying to buy one!

I found an XLE in the wild over the weekend and the dealer wanted $5k over MSRP. Told them I'd pass since I'm on a few different waiting lists and really didn't like how they tried to sneak the extra charge into the MSRP instead of calling it out explicitly, but now I'm not sure that was 100% the best idea. Oh well!

It shouldn't have much of an impact on Siennas, or other models, for that matter. February and March are typically low demand months except perhaps in the southern belt where the weather is warmer. I am now resigned to waiting till 2023 to buy a new car. Luckily for me, my Sienna is still in very good shape mechanically ( I have only driven 119K miles on her); it can easily do another 100K miles. I am sorry for folks who must buy at these times, it's a sellers market for sure. A few years down the road, when the dust settles and normalcy (and sanity) is restored, those huge $5-10K mark-ups would have to be borne by the buyer as unsavoury depreciation.

How is the inventory where you live? Are dealers lots loaded with vehicles so a slow down in production will have little impact?

In the south existing inventory is non-existent. Dealers that normally have several hundred are lucky to have a dozen. Instead of getting 200 next month they will get 160. My son was looking in Minnesota and Wisconsin and same story. No inventory sitting on dealers lots.

Stating the obvious, these are not normal times. Most dealers have ZERO inventory and vehicles are sold the moment they arrive or long before. A reduction in production will most certainly result in less vehicles to sell. If the pipeline was full it might be a different story.

As you stated, you have resigned to waiting until 2023. There is one delayed, lost sale and you are most certainly not alone.

I don't think everyone did get one, we all just post about it when we do so the narrative looks like everyone has a new Sienna. The reality is there are numerous folks searching and waiting.
lots of waiting on all fronts! I put a deposit on a Woodland in October. It was built Dec 20th. Still don’t have it because of no transport drivers so it’s sitting at a train station 2 hours from the dealership and has been for 3 weeks. Guess I should be glad it’s built, but sucks to wait when it’s done and so close.

It's hard to know the impacts to specific models based on worldwide production figures. Toyota is a BIG company with lots of factories (I'm just stating the obvious). For February, Toyota is shutting down their Czech factory for the whole month (Toyota Shutting Down Czech Factory The Whole February Due To Supply Issues). This obviously has zero impact on Sienna.
Toyota is still aiming to produce a record number of cars for 2023 (10.6M, more than pre-pandemic 2019 figures https://finance.yahoo.com/news/toyota-targets-baseline-production-volume-114811954.html). If they achieve that... we still don't know if that means less or more Siennas. Because they could choose to build any number of other models...
Worse for us Canadians, they can build boatloads (or trainloads in this case I guess) of Siennas and we're still screwed if they keep refusing to ship them up here, as they have been doing the past year.

Seems many are canceling once their vehicle arrives or scheduled, I've received a couple of calls for model and color that I specified when going on waitlist. I imagine half or more on waitlist can no longer take delivery based on increased payment, due to interest rates. When they announce a mid cycle update, informed waitlist holders will delay.
I am now contemplating switching my waitlist/deposit to new models once introduced, Grand Highlander or Tacoma. Also more likely than ever to ditch Toyota/Honda for model Y. I only considered Sienna for its space utility, though don't like the high cost with outdated infotainment, old battery tech, second row not removable and limited towing. I don't need or even want a third row seating in any vehicle.

Wait for the announcement of the Grand Highlander on 8 Feb, it should come with an AWD hybrid variant, Toyota's updated features (14 inches infortainment screen with upgraded graphics, TSS 3.0, etc) we'll see if the passenger and cargo space is competitive,

Maybe that will take away some Sienna sales [more inventory in that case] so fingers crossed!! :)

I really doubt that. Global chip shortage affects all toyota factories and models. Thats why Toyota never specified only X models are affected. They only say - they will reduce 150,000 in 2Q22, etc. TM chooses/influences what models get more and what global markets get them first based on profitablity, proximity, etc. of course, this is not the only factor. We dont know what plant will the Grand Highlander be made. Sienna/Highlander come from one assembly plant.

The Grand Highlander will come from the same plant as Sienna and Highlander. That’s announced already. Also the Lexus equivalent of the Grand Highlander as well. So yea, the new model will likely just impact production of the other models.
To be honest, I don’t know why Toyota bothers to announce new models when they can’t build their existing ones. Don’t need to discuss the Sienna, and Highlanders have a long wait time, hybrid ones basically don’t get made. Other new models announced but no where to be seen: Corolla Cross Hybrid, Crown.

I like the idea of the Grand Highlander but I see production (likely in low volumes) happening around December 2023 so it'll be prudent to order fast, as soon as it is announced.
