Key fob is always ON transmitting a signal, as the vehicle is always ON listening for a key fob signal.
Can’t turn OFF the van, one can turn OFF the key fob by doing the following:

1) Press LOCK once and keep it pressed.
2) Press UNLOCK twice and watch red LED flash 4 times.

Press any button (not the Any button) to reactivate.

I do this every evening now.

Thanks! Very interesting and especially good to know given the prevalence of signal-amplifier based car thefts in our area. I assume that the fob turns back on as soon as you press a button again? Or is there a sequence to turn it back on?

Correct, I didn’t include. Just edited and included that statement.
I keep my keys in a metal can at night since I have to park it outside.
Is the metal made of lead?
Method I provided stops/reduces battery drainage and radiation to the part. 🧏‍♂

Yes, I've heard the coffee can idea but I think I prefer this approach. Means I can leave my keys wherever I prefer (hook near the door) without dropping them in the coffee can but also should greatly extend my battery life since one of our keys gets used only a couple of times a month and the other one regularly goes unused for 24 hour stretches. Not that replacing the battery is a meaningful expense but I don't love the clips that hold the battery in (feels like they are going to break at some point) so having to do that less frequently is appealing.

We're around 1 year on the fobs so wondering if should preemptively change batteries?

Unlikely both fobs need new battery at same time.
In our case we got 17 months out of one fob's battery and 23 months out of the other. I believe we got a "low battery" warning on the dash display for several days before changing them and the range was noticeably weaker before changing them so there's plenty of advance notice. I don't plan to change mine till I have to for the simple reason that those clips in the fob don't feel like the most sturdy things ever and I don't want to stress them more often than I have to.

Good to know, thanks.

Agree the fobs not the most sturdy... nothing like the tank like fobs from the German vehicles.

This is also useful for locking one FOB in the vehicle.
I believe when you manually lock with the mechanical key, it disables the vehicle from searching for FOBs also (i.e. you could leave second FOB in vehicle and it won't matter). Mainly useful for locking FOB in and taking mechanical key surfing/etc.

Gotta be careful what I post!!

Today my fob would not work :(

Took off cover and jiggled the battery a bit and voila... the remote worked to unlock and lock... I was just adding windshield washer fluid so did not drive.
Anyways at least it seems the fob can be reinvigorated. Strange as no warning on dashboard so perhaps a little jiggle was just needed for now.

Now to find best price for battery so not caught off guard!!

In case it helps... Wish we get a Billion dollars!! :)

After several minutes, maybe 5? It times out and engages the Parking Brake, yes while in D.
Yeah. But before it trips the parking brake, It prompts you on MID to push brake pedal. If you miss the prompt, than it engages the parking brake. This mostly happens to us in drive-thrus.
