Spare tire crank under carpet nut is bigger than my tire iron and my tire iron tire iron fits my lug nuts on my steel wheel
Am i missing an adapter or what. Glad i checked today. I wanted to lower it to check air pressure

I don't know about 2nd gen, but my 3rd gen requires a socket looking thing that is used to lower the spare. It's attachesd to the panel in the back where the crank handle, jack, tire iron etc are located.

My 06 comes with a special removal socket. I keep mine in my glove box.

The Gen-II vans originally came with a hex nut for the spare tire winch. Shops were abusing the system by using impact wrenches to raise and lower them, often destroying them. Toyota changed to a 5 sided nut and retrofitted vans thru a pair of recalls around 10 years ago. The special socket is probably rocking around loose at the bottom of your jack draw in the right rear quarter panel.
