Hi All,

Lots of great info on tires here that really helped me. I have a 2015 LTD AWD with Kumho Solus tires which are bad news (one bald & one out of round/warped). So, after 25k miles they need replacing. We live in NYC and drive in all conditions as well as having a more aggressive driving style. I also have a mini spare. Based on everything I have read here plus a bit of tirerack, I am considering either:
1) Bridgestone - DRIVEGUARD PLUS (pls note the new PLUS model)
2) Michelin - Primacy MXM4 XT (pls note the XT model)

Questions:
1) The PLUS model is brand new and was upgraded. Anyone have any experience with it?
2) The MXM4 without the XT seems a bit under sized for the van for my style/location. Anyone use the XT model?

I look forward to your feedback and thoughts.

Best Regards,
Daniel

If you want a great tire that actually lasts as long as its warranty says, I would go Michelin. I know, I probably just started a pissing contest with a bunch of people who will tell me I am wrong, but from personal experience and from many others on other forums, the same thing repeats. Michelin makes high quality tires. You dont hear stories like yours about tires wearing out too fast or warped, or defective in any way. They're kind of like the Toyota of tires if you will.
That being said, are you stuck on the M4's and are they run flats?
I would look at the Michelin Defender T&H if you dont need run flats.

I am indifferent to RFT (although they make getting flats easier for my wife) since I have used both RFT & non-RFT over a 18 year period. Unfortunately the Defender does not come in 235/55R18 size.
I am NOT stuck on the MXM4 and open to other tires also.

Sorry, I didnt read closely enough on your size when I said that. Looks like you can get the Defender LTX M/S in your size. I had them on my 2012 Tundra. Awesome tire. Provided great traction in all weather including ice and snow.

I also had the Kumho Solus -- they are horrible.

AVOID RFT's at all cost!

I've owned three AWD 3rd gen Siennas that came with RFTs over the last 11 years. From my are expensive, they wear out fast and unevenly, have poor traction in the snow, and are not as repairable as standard tires. When you have a flat and lose any significant amount of air, the RFTs are shot and cannot be repaired (then again, that probably applies to all tires.)

If you want all seasons that do well in the snow, I recommend Michelin Cross Climate II, Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady, or some of the newer 3PMS (3-peak mountain snowflake) severe snow service-rated tires that have recently come on the market. Nearly all of them have good treadwear ratings and last much longer than RFTs. Mileage is not noticeably worse. They are a bit noisier than regular all seasons and RFTs though.

In all honesty, get AAA if you worry about flat tires. I carry a full-size spare since the AWD do not come with spare tire, but in all my years I've never experienced a flat tire while on the road.

I recently had Milestar Weatherguard AS710 Sport tires (235 /60 R17 106H XL BSW) installed at America's Tire for my 2019 LX, and so far so good. The OEM Firestone tires only lasted about 25k miles. These Milestar tires are XL rated and inexpensive compared to others. They are made in USA.

I installed Continental TrueContact last year on my 2013 Sienna XLE. Excellent tire. Probably has about 15k miles on the tires. They came highly rated and seem to be popular with the Sienna crowd. The cost was much less than the Michelin.

I believe that we have the same on our 2007 Sienna. I think they were great until I locked up the brakes to avoid an accident. I think I might have a flat spot in one of the tires.

I agree with the Defenders. Had them on my '05 LE AWD and also put them on my wife's '02 RAV4.
The tires on my '18 XLE AWD were pretty much gone when I got the van last year, replaced them with Defenders.

Unfortunately the Defender does not come in 235/55R18 size.
Not sure if I even looked for them in a /55. I was looking for a little more cushion and fixing the speedometer error, so I went with 235/60. Works great, speedo is accurate now.

Not sure what all the hoopla is in favor of run-flats. They ride terribly, they are noisier, they don't last long and they cost more. I really don't even remember when my wife or I have had a flat tire that was caused by something on the road, where a run-flat tire might have been an advantage. The way things are nowadays, a driver is likely to call the Auto Club to come change a tire, anyway, so just save the cost of the run-flats and get an Auto Club membership.
