I've watched that video and found it informative. I only use Toyota OEM filters myself. I bought some Toyota branded filters on Amazon but they ended up being made in China so I returned them.
They are very inexpensive from my dealer.

I just skimmed it really fast. I didn't see him mention the TRD oil filters. These are sold by Toyota, with Toyota PNs, as an alternative to the stock filter we are all familiar with. Basically has a similar (better?) filter element, and both ends are capped with metal instead of open, and there's a metal tube in the middle for extra strength too. They fit inside the stock canister housing. So if someone feels the stock $6 filter is not good enough, they should look at the TRD filter as their first choice of upgrade. You can find this by searching oil filter on parts.toyota.com for your year of Sienna, or ask for it at any Toyota dealership.

Nope. Metal crush washer is in the filter box if you buy from a dealer.

The oil drain plug on parts.toyota.com doesn't appear to be an aluminum crush washer, but some sort of plastic or composite material. It supersedes a lot of part numbers though, so they may have been aluminum originally, and dealers may still have aluminum ones?

Lately I have been using Wix 51348XP in my 06 and I wonder how they compare to Toyota's 90915-YZZD1. What got me thinking when I watched the video was the mention of the bypass pressure ( if it ever comes to that ) for the Toyota filter. Supposedly it is engineered to be such that the engine would not starve of lubrication if the filter gets clogged. Thoughts?

IMO the video is don't say nothing because is comparing apple with apple. toyota canister versus cartridge's witch...of course are identical except the housing. everybody speak about OEM and nobody about an upgraded media filtration for smaller particles without to loss pressure. for me that will be an upgrade not use same media filtration on to a spin on on front of a cartridge ore vice versa. The media filtration himself is making a big difference on quality of oil passing on your engine and second the dimensions of filter is making more debris to be collected in between oil changes before the valve to bypass.again is my opinion and because of that i have on all 3 past and actual Sienna a remote filter with a mounted Mobile 301A canister

Dirty oil still moving is better than no oil.
I quite agree !! It is the point ( force , pressure?) at which the bypass valve opens that concerns me . What if more force is required by other filters when compared to the Toyota ones? It means that the engine "could " be starved of oil ,if even momentarily. So I guess the filter for the engine that is recommended will bypass at a certain point to provide continuous flow. I wonder how dirty the engine oil has to be?

I didn't even know some filters did this. I have been buying mobil 1 filters ( expensive) for as long as I have had it. I sure don't see anything about them that looks like a bypass. Wasn't really looking for one either . I could get at least 3 toyota filters for what I pay for one. Maybe I will just buy like 4 of them online from a dealer.
