So things may be starting to turn around in terms of supply. October 2022 Toyota Canada sales are up 9.6% from October 2021. I think this may be the first month in 2022 that did better than 2021. Unfortunately they don't break out by model, but this is consistent with the overall ramp up in Toyota production numbers.
Would 'Sale' be considered vehicle delivery? That would be a good sign. If 'sale' just means submitting an order, then it's irrelevant to supply.

I have been waiting for a XLE since Jan 2022 in the GTA. I asked them to get my XLE position within the dealership and I was met with resistance. What kind of progress have you guys gotten from dealerships - am I being unreasonable? I just keep getting 'no updates' everytime I ask them about it but I want something better. What else can I ask to keep my mind sane?

Ordered XSE AWD same time as you. I've been #2 on waiting list (all Sienna models considered) in this major dealer for almost 7 months. That tells me they have received almost no XSE AWD this year. When my 3rd child arrives I will simply take my deposit back and buy a used van either a Odyssey or Sienna and forget about hybrid. against my heart. I can grab a 3-4 years old Odyssey and save at least 20k.
So you were able to get position in line fairly easily from the dealership? It's driving me crazy that I can't get this basic information

Should be a corporate controlled allocation queue as I I believe Hyundai does like that.

Else everything at dealership discretion which as we've seen is less then ideal.
Agreed, in absence of this centralized system solution, I am going back to the dealership to manually pull information for me. Regardless of it's usefulness, I should be the judge of that. Wish me luck!

I finally got this information after asking a few times. The answer was... not what I wanted to hear. If they aren't giving this info willingly, I'd say safe to assume there is a long queue and you're not at the front.
I finally put my foot down and didn't take no for an answer. I got them to share that I am #7 at the dealership level and will send me an update monthly from now on. Now...I am fully aware that I cannot get an ETA based on my position but honestly I react better to this vs "no update".

I was able to get this screenshot as an update on my pre-order. I am now a bit curious to the rest of the contents of it, and hoping smart people of this forum can help be decipher it.

What do you guys think the red highlighted items are?

Lol I feel you. This time I have exact dates, color, credit check and all that. Hope it's not all for nothing.

But yeah, the situation is really messed up..but with the internet rate rise and the overall economy, I doubt the crazy markups will last.
Update. I had placed an order for an xse AWD tech Sienna back in may 22. Last week, my salesperson called me. She said she has a Highlander Hybrid coming in a couple of months. And the best part, NO EXTRA CHARGE!. when I asked how much I need to pay for It, she said I just need to open up toyota.ca and build and whatever comes up there that's what they will charge me. Really happy with the honesty, and I know who's my go to Toyota dealer from now, Ancaster Toyota! They could have easily charged a few thousand dollars extra on it , would've sold just as easily. And now I know how they operate, am sure they'll be fair with the Sienna order as well.

In this market, I doubt stuff like this often happens. I'll keep my order for the Sienna open till it comes and have my Highlander Hybrid meanwhile! I tried the third row, it's definitely not as comfortable as a Sienna, but is more than enough for kids. And in any case, 2 rows will be my standard drive mode.
Hope it all works out for you!

However, I just find this all a bit too sketchy and early to say this dealer is "Good". There are waitlists for both Siennas and Highlander hybrids.
The end scenario for the dealership is at the very least they get to sell a "used" highlander at a higher price vs selling it to their waitlisted customers.

On top of that, if they are willing to sell you the highlander hybrid instead of waitlisted highlander customers. How do you know they aren't/won't do the same with your incoming Sienna?

The only way this is "fair" is if the highlander is a customer cancellation and they went through and offered to everyone on their waitlist - then offered to the alternate vehicle waitlists. Otherwise, they are screwing someone over and in turn - how do you know they aren't/won't doing the same to you?

Again, hope it does work out for you.
