The most ridiculous thing is getting no updates from dealership and not responsive to emails at all. I believe they should build a webpage or app that shows where you are in the line. I ordered a xse with technology package in January this year and even the sales manager wouldn't respond to my email. I just want to know how many clients are ahead of me. I thought managing client expectations is part of sales and services.

Unfortunately knowing the clients ahead of you at the dealer level may only be useful for the orders that are the exact same spec/and colour package as you. If its 0 or 5 will not give you a delivery estimate. The Toyota allocation system is a mess, and the dealer is in the dark. The dealer doesn't know where you are on the master list. Until you receive an allocation, the update you will get from the dealer is that they don't know.

Toyota Canada should do a much better job in this case. Sadly it seems they have a shortage of talents as well.

I'm in the same boat as you and Ive been waiting about the same amount of time for an XSE.
I get no response to email or even phone calls to the sales manager. The salesman is a ghost too.
I only get anywhere when I stop into the dealership, which I did back in August. I was told in early August I'm next for an XSE. Then I see 2 XSE's on my dealer's website. After emails/calls and a runaround, someone else called me back to tell me that the 2 XSE's were employee orders.... hmm... sure...
But I have really no leverage and must wait patiently

I have heard this a lot. Currently salespeople have zero incentive to be nice to you. Folks are begging them for a car. And they have the power to allocate the car to someone who pays a markup.

I currently have orders with two dealerships. One of them tried to sneak in a markup in the invoice. I know they'll fool around if they get a chance. The other one flat out refused (said it's totally unethical and will never do it) when I suggested I'll pay a markup. It all depends.

If you want great service, go to Chrysler, lol. It was a day and night difference. Those guys want to sell their pacificas.

I've been waiting over a year now. No word from the dealer. I inquired about a highlander they had on the lot one, and they said I had to buy extended warranty. It's such BS. I think the longer you wait at this point, the better it'll be. Who knows, maybe with the economy like it is now, we'll start seeing some incentives/discounts.

Well I am back on a waiting list for a Sienna limited trim. I had posted earlier this year that I had put down $1K on a red limited only to be dicked around by a local dealership being unresponsive to me and then when I call them that they take a prick ass approach on informing me of the changes they've done to the finance rate that I had signed on, the pricing along with the deleted feature of the van. I was so pissed off that I dumped my preorder and got my $1k deposit back. I called up another tiny dealership and this time I went with the sales referral from a friend of mine that loves his sales guy and he was cordial, transparent and brutally honest about the situation. They put me on their allocation list and said they will not mark up van (b/c in Canada apparently its illegal to sell above MSRP but will tack on mandatory dealer installed items). They didn't make me pay a deposit and said they will only make me a pay a non-refundable $1k deposit when toyota says "we're ready to build it". I asked what is an estimate and they told me about 18-24 months is the current trajectory which is a-ok for me since finance rates have shot through the roof and our cars are still running just fine. What is different this time from our first pre-order is that we have a straight shooter sales guy that won't take our money so I'm not having our money tied up. 2nd, we moved into a new home so expenses are super high and I'm not interested in any additional financial obligations for the next 2-3 years. 3rd, we're making payments to a short term GIC fund to let our downpayment grow so we're making "equivalent payments" to an investment that will be used to pay for the van when it does one day show up.

I am absolutely floored at the cost of borrowing to buy this future new car. Nearly $24K in borrowing costs at the current rate of 6.79% with $0 down? Yikes! How do you folks manage this? We figured that by the time we get the van that we would've saved nearly $30K for a downpayment and even if we fianced half the amount that the borrowing costs is STILL $13K for the balance! In other words, the REAL cost of the van if you were to finance 100% of it is more like $89K CAD. That is absolutely insane for a car. Is this normal for most households?

Don't think any law to restrict selling above MSRP in Canada... majority of dealerships just operate that way BUT now some of the scum bag stealerships are tacking on bogus add ons.
My understanding is they can't sell for higher than advertised pricing (at least that's the law in Ontario). Since there's no cars now, there's no advertising, and so dealers are free to do as they wish. MOST choose to not do the mark-ups as customers really hate them, but instead do the BS add-ons instead. All the same to them, it's profit.

Dealer just emailed me saying they are on track for getting the 23 anniversary edition in first week of nov, and I should be able to take delivery of it a few days after
Sounds good, looks like things are working out good for you!
Meanwhile, my sales rep has now decided to not reply to my texts... He didn't do that before, I wonder what's up...

People are up to their neck in debt and only look at the monthly - sorry weekly - payment. We've been saving for our XSE (total cost 60k) for almost a year now at a very agressive rate and if the car arrives at the beginning of 2023 as planned, we will still have to finance about 10-15k. We make high income but we're still uncomfortable spending so much on a minivan. Most people seem ok living with debt. We're not. Especially with a possibility of recession.

Congrats to him. Must be one of the last 2022's to roll off the line, as I think 2023's are starting to arrive?
I think so. I knew a couple months ago 5 were left to be delivered (1 being my brothers). The last truck at the dealer dropped off 2 Siennas. Both same colour and package. Twins!!

So the sales team at Erin Park has decided to ghost me at this point. My sales person has been promoted to finance manager and has stopped replying to my texts and calls. I've tried to reach the sales manager by phone, was told I'd get a call back and they never did. What upset me the most is that the sales receptionist basically tried to brush me off entirely. As soon as I told her I ordered a Sienna in February, she said that I need to wait 2 years so I have a long way to go and wanted to just leave it at that. Well, that certainly wasn't what I was told just a few weeks ago. Not happy...

Oh side note, I just placed an order for a VW ID4 for my wife. The sales manager was all responsive and nice up to the point where I put down my deposit, and then he passed me off to some sales who was supposed to finish up the paperwork, but decided to just not do anything or reply to my messages. Being a customer in this car market really sucks. I can't wait until the tables are turned.

You're shopping for 2 vehicles and they're treating you like crap.

Suggest get from another dealership and then call up these crappy dealerships and drive past them.

I actually did something like this several years ago... the looks on the salespeople faces were priceless as we had negotiated a good deal for extended family and friends for 3 vehicles all same manufacturer [1 sedan, 2 suvs].

Remember, the North remembers.

I believe that by the end of December 2022, the interest rate for 72 month financing would be around 8%, as Central Bank of Canada will have hiked the interest rate 2 more times. Btw, the current lease rate of 8.29% for 60 month period for the Ltd trim is nuts!

I hear you my friend. I am in the same area in Ontario. 'Dog eat Dog'...
