Decided to pass on adding a hitch given the stories of the rear collision sensor when using a large bike carrier. ..
FWIW, it takes 10 seconds to disable parking sensors when using a hitch carrier.

Aftermarket hitch is still better option because it is only about 200USD vs. 950USD for factory one. With aftermarket one, you get to keep your kick sensor too.

Thanks for this info! I'm wonder which brand of aftermarket hitch receiver allows the kick sensor to work? I've installed several Curt Mfg hitches, so they are my go-to, but their model seems to interfere as well. I'm happy to look at a a different brand, though!

Check out this long thread on the ecohitch. Installation is a bit more involved but looks like the best solution.

Ecohitch is the best option as mentioned above.

Curt and drawtite are much cheaper. With some practice, you can make the rear kick sensor work most of the time. I have drawtite.

I had also settled on Ecohitch as clearly being the best option due to the fact that it's the only "hidden" option that goes inside the bumper, which also means its higher up than other options and gives you more ground clearance as well. It's going to be more work and more expensive to install, but seems totally worth it.

One thing that I just noticed recently when looking at tongue weight considering putting a motorcycle carrier on the back of the car, is that Ecohitch by its design also gets a significantly higher tongue weight than any of the competition. All the other ones I have looked at only support 350 lbs. tongue weight, while Ecohitch supports 525 lbs. tongue weight. Honestly, even if I'm not going to go up to that weight, I like the confidence that the overbuilding will give me on the hitch strength. I don't know if I'll actually put a motorbike carrier on there, but I know that I will very often put my 6-bike mountain bike rack on there fully loaded, which is approaching the 350 lbs. regular limit, and it's nice to know that you are not constantly riding the edge of the rated tongue weight.

Anyway, we got a bit off on a tangent from the original topic... due to concerns that I might be waiting 3-4 years to get a Sienna from my local dealership, we ended up putting another deposit down with an Alberta dealership that does very high volume sales where the salesperson was talking about a 1-2 year wait instead... I don't know if he was just being optimistic to get my deposit or what, but I figured we should at least hedge our bets a little bit by putting a second deposit down with someone else. All the BC dealerships I talked to had waitlists indicating 3-4 year waits or weren't even taking deposits anymore.

My view is, 2 years is so far out that no one knows what will happen by then, and I'm certain the situation will change drastically over the next year. What is absolutely certain is that MANY on waitlists will not end up taking delivery, either because they get tired of waiting, or have multiple vehicles ordered, or the rising interest rates finally take their toll. I have been watching a few other vehicles, and long wait times are rapidly disappearing, and people are starting to talk about negotiating for discounts.

I'm convinced that Toyota will need to sort out their wait times in Canada within the next year or so, or risk losing significant sales. Other brands are much more quickly returning to normal supply. Regardless of how good their product or their reputation, people are not going to put up with 1-2 year waits on regular mass market vehicles like RAV4's, when competitors start to have theirs vehicles on the lot. We were considering a Corolla Cross for my wife. With wait times of over 1 year for even the regular ICE model, we are looking elsewhere.

I think you are right about the automotive market generally, and I'm sure there will be people dropping off the list for Siennas as well, but I could also see the Sienna waitlist being more stubborn than the rest of the industry generally. There's going to be other people like me, for whom an AWD Sienna is really the only option for a new car that I'm considering. If my current van dies in the meantime, I'll buy an older used van and still wait for my new AWD Sienna. That is, unless Kia does something unexpected and comes out with a Hybrid AWD Carnival. I don't really see that happening though.

Anyway, I hope you are right about the Sienna waitlists as well. I would be okay just waiting another year or even two, but more than that really seems obscene and worries me about my current van's reliability that far into the future.

went on build and price once they uploaded the 2023’s and printed off the summary Nov 29, 2022. Went and did the same thing today and I see Toyota increased MSRP $500 on the AWD 25th AE. They also increased freight and PDI by $40. And they added a line for dealer fees of $999 maximum.

I thought this was very weird to increase MSRP a few months after releasing MSRP for the new MY.

more shady practices from Toyota.

I've received two offers to purchase a used dealer car at a 20-25k markup versus MSRP:rolleyes: from my dealer. Oh boy, this drama doesnt seem to get any better.
Where was that?
I am really on the fence to buy a Tesla 7 seater (I know is night and day differences). Because of the stock and with all the problems with the markups or unclear orders I think I can have that within a month.

If you're open to a small third row SUV like the Tesla Y, consider the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. The SEL trim level is relatively available and you can buy one almost immediately.

Seems like you got a bargain. I was quoted 10k more.
You're right, I rechecked my texts and it's $69K... What a joke...

Did you have any luck moving up the queue? I was thinking about asking for my monthly update, but not sure my heart can take the disappointment.

Edit: Just noticed that XLE is still on the Erin Park website. Wonder how long they'll hold on to it before they drop the price. Even among overpriced used Sienna's, the pricing on this one is truly outrageous.

I was tempted by the Mitsubishi a lot. After doing some homework I stopped looking at it. The reliability it's not there (definitely not Toyota level). Customer service (dealers) it's hit and miss. There are rumors of Mitsubishi leaving Canada (basically leaving you with a very heavy paperweight or extremely expensive car to fix without a proper trained mechanic). It looks like the fuel economy is not great on electric and hybrid (and for the car to warm up the engine will kick in a lot).
Right now I own a Hyundai ioniq (2018) with a family of 5 (wife + 3 children). Living with the fear of the car being able to break at some point it's not a pleasant experience. Hyundai is also unreliable for customer service and I hate them for this. I had my radio changed 2 times. 2nd time I was just lucky and learned that a radio will cost me 4000 CAD and to be honest I'm expecting to break again ☹. I am even afraid to think of something bigger to break. Also the maintenance was really expensive for the car. At least 1000 dollars per year (following with a few skips the mandatory maintenance).
Long story short, I would love to get a Sienna ASAP to see my children happier, but at my dealership (DVPN Toyota) I am number 60 in line. Therefore I would be happy with a Tesla model Y instead of that. Tesla proved to be decently reliable.
Sorry for being a little (or more) of topic.
