Hello everyone, just wanted to introduce myself. I consider myself a car enthusiast and a former VW Golf driver for the past decade (hoping I'll get back into one in the future.) Growing up my father had a first gen XL10. Now with my own family, and a set of twins, we're waiting for our own Sienna. Funny how some things come full circle. I did a quick search and couldn't find this conversation topic. So what were you all driving before the Sienna? Or what is your weekend car besides a Sienna? ☺

Im getting old:
When I first got married in 2010 I was a VW enthusiast: I had a 1.8T 2004 Jetta MKIV manual transmission as my weekend car/project and a 2008 MKV TDI JETTA and my wife had a brand new MK6 TDI JETTA. 2011.
Then first kid came, (was supposed to be ONE KID) and switched to a 2013 RAV4, Sold the 2008 Jetta and kept the 2011 jetta for myself.
Then second kid came (surprise) and traded the 2013 RAV4 for a 2012 Sienna
Then I got a vasectomy
THEN sold the 2004 jetta since it just sat.....
traded my TDI jetta in 2017 for a brand new prius (fell in love with hybrids)
then was going to buy a sienna in 2020 but then I learned that the new gen of siennas were all hybrids so traded the prius for a corolla 2021
and in 2022 sold the 2012 sienna and bought the new 2022 sienna, IN MEXICO! (easier to get them in mexico than in the US)
Greetings from Laredo TX y'all

Short answer: 2001 Chevy Prism. Got our Sienna in Jan 2021.

Long Answer: Prism had kind of premature death in late 2020. It had "only" 153K miles on it. It sat unused due to covid. We live in a parking space challenged area so it was parked half a mile away. I had bought it in 2009 at 120K as my wife's first car here in US. We got a 2011 C300 in 2011 when our first one was born. Prism became backup car that time. C300 is our backup car now. We put about 1500 miles on c300 since sienna.

I also have a 2006 Chey Colorado bought new. It is also a backup car with only about 57K on it so far.

I "have" a 1995 Kawasaki ZX-9R. Reason for double quotes is that last I rode on it was in 2010. It is just a souvenir in my garage now. It will cost a lot more than it's worth to get it going again.

The Sienna is technically the wife's car but we use it as the family car for the four of us. Before the Sienna we had an 2008 Acura RDX (first gen with turbo engine) that the wife mostly drove. It was old enough that it kind of our beater car where we'd park it with impunity.

I now drive a 2022 Model Y and prior to that I had a 2005 Acura RL and a 2016 Acura ILX. I ended up getting rid of both of these cars when used car prices were sky high and settled on a single car, the Model Y. The wife never drives the Model Y because it's too weird.

1990 Maxima. Hand me down. It died 2007 after I let it sit during my deployment.
2002 4runner. It was a hand me down to the wife and my current backup car.
2012 Prius C my current commuter. Only car I ever bought brand new.
1978 MGB. My most recent purchase and never ending project.

My cars have been so reliable that I don't really need to buy cars I guess. The 4runner can prob last another generation. Lol.

Yeah, I've only owned 4 or 5 cars in my life and none of them were broken down when I got rid of them. I always had reliable cars so this is the first time in my life that we have essentially 2 brand new (fairly expensive) cars in our household.

I'm hoping to replace the Prius C with the Canoo EV Van as soon as they start production.

That is quite the vehicle history. I remember my dad teaching me to drive in his sienna at 16. He eventually traded the minivan for an RX330 and that car lasted forever. He would let me borrow it whenever I want and we both loved that car very much. I create the thread but didn't list my vehicles.

My very first car was a 2008 Civic Si. Bought a brand new 2012 MK6 Golf R and it was a money pit. I was not smart with my money in my early 20's. Late 20's, I got into a 2004 S2000. Sold that, settled down. Picked up a CPO MK7 Golf R and that was my favorite car - to date. Recently sold it to prepare for the incoming Sienna and I'm not sure how I will adjust to a bigger hybrid vehicle.

The white Camry is extremely rare. Only about 500 was made. It’s 5 speed V6 Camry SE. Took me 10 years to find one.

E9x and E82 are two of better recent BMW chassis. Cheap to buy now and modify.

The accord wagons in storage - one is manual with 120k miles- with bad paint. One is automatic with 63k miles- with every possible factory accessories.

And- Green especially light green is my favorite color. Especially the Opal Green on the accord wagon- that is also reason why I had same color Civic in storage as well.
