Is this what explains why the cup holders are often hot in the rear? I see some pipes. Are they connected to the front engine for heat exchange?

Yes, the right rear cup holder is noticeably warmer due to engine coolant circulating to the rear heater.

I have never noticed that. Probably because my third-row seats are only up a couple of times per year, and then only for a couple of hours, so nobody has needed the cup holders.

Actually, the right-side cup holder is in use all the time. That is where I store my little jump-pack battery thingy. I run its charger cord back to the power port so it's ALWAYS ready.
