2008 radio display going wonky on me

I'm having this problem with my radio display. Most of the time the display is fine. Other times its blank or blinks or has lots of lines on it. If it is blank, I cannot manually change the channel, I have to use the button on the steering wheel. If I tap the top of the dash, it usually fixes the problem for a while. I just ignore it for the most part. Radio and everything else works great. Sound is fine.

Anyone else have this problem?

Same problem with my 2008 sienna. No lines on the display but it does go blank and unresponsive sporadically. I was thinking of taking it out and checking the soldering joints to see if that's the problem. Is that a good route to go to try and fix something like this diy or is it just a replace-only type of fix?

Other things to try:
disconnect the battery for a few minutes to hard-reset the electronics
watch if it's temperature related
use steering-wheel controls
replace with after-market stereo

We had this problem last winter. It happened only a few times, and it hasen't happened in months. I think it could be temperature related. Our van stays outside all year round and in the winter it has gotten quite cold. This was when it happened. After the inside had warmed from the heater being on for a while, the problem didin't come back. Gremlins?

My 2004 just started this about 2-3 months ago. Mine doesn't seem to be temperature related. Now that the mornings are a little cooler, it still happens. My display will go out and my volume knob will just spin around without doing anything. I will end up using wheel controls, or tap on the top side of the radio to get the display to work.

At first, I thought the LCD was drying out. But once the potentiometer started acting funny, I knew something else was going on. At 130K miles, I will probably deal with it. I blew out my subwoofer last year and have been jamming OK without it......Too cheap to get another one (besides, the kids complain about the loud music ;D )

Cheers!
