2011 Won't Start/Electrical Problems

I'm having an intermittent problem with starting my 2011 XLE. When my wife goes to start it, it doesn't make a sound. If you turn the key to the on position, none of the lights on the dash light up, the radio doesn't come on, but the windshield wipers move very slowly. Then all of a sudden (after minutes) everything comes on, and the van will start normally.

I opened the hood and looked for battery corrosion, and didn't see any. However, I didn't take the cables off the terminal. Any suggestions?

it may be a red herring, but the car and garage smell like something (animal) died. could I have a dead mouse or something stuck somewhere?

update: now it won't start at all, there is a clicking noise when she's not trying to start it, but the key is in the on position. Also she turned on the dome light, and it flashed in time with the clicking noise. On top of that no she can't lock the doors remotely.

I'm surprised that your problem was only because the battery was old. When I had a similar situation, I didn't really understand anything about cars and had to go to Chicago electrical contractor for help, but they solved my problem differently. Every handyman has his own method of solving a predicament, it seems to me. I think the problem wasn't just the battery, and your problem will be back again soon. Be careful with it, and be sure to email me about any changes. I hope I was at least helpful. Do a re-inspection before making a final conclusion

It is quite common for batteries to fail intermittently as internal connections between cells separate and rejoin. I've had a number of batteries on multiple vehicles fail in this manner and a new battery has always solved the problem.
