2014 Sienna with engine noise (solved)

Hello,
My 2014 Sienna with 170k has thick noise coming from the engine area. The noise is intermittent and every time I take it to a mechanic to check it out, it becomes very smooth and can't diagnose it. What could be the problem? What should I tell me mechanic? Thanks.


I've done oil changes religiously every 5k.


Resolution: It was a VVT solenoid. The one in the back where the intake was removed to gain access.

The problem is that the noise is intermittent and by the time I can get to a mechanic the noise is gone. It’s driving me nuts. I’ve had several mechanic tell me that the water pump is fine. Do you know what part it was that was causing noise so I can have someone check it? Thanks.
