Got a 23 Sienna Platinum about 3 weeks ago. Today, tried to use the AC outlets for the first time. I plugged in a usb hub to the outlet behind the center console. Nothing. Tried the one in the trunk. Nothing. Tried with engine on, gas engine running, accessory only...nothing would make them work. So I scheduled a service appointment. But is there something stupid I might be missing? Maybe it's me...just stupid user error? lol Thanks!

 

Sounds like a problem with the nut behind the wheel.

There is probably a switch on the lower dash to the left of the steering column

Did you press the 115 outlet button on the console? AC outlets are by default turned for safty reasons.

 

Doesn't Roku use a micro USB cable to a 120V power adapter anyway? You could simply plug the Roku USB into any of the USB outlets in the Sienna, too.

 

My one other question regarding the AC's.

I've never had AC's in a car before. If we plug a Roku into that thing for a road trip, are we at risk of draining the battery too low?

A Roku uses very little power and should not be any problem. Even if a higher wattage item was being used, the computer would make sure the traction battery is adequately charged.

 

Yeah, I personally find it very annoying that they aren't always on. I frequently forget to turn it on when I wanted to (electric cooler).

 

I suspect it's a gas saving measure. While the inverter itself won't use a lot of power, it will use some, causing the engine to come on to keep the HVB charged. Also save wear on the inverter.

Also, note that the AC outlets only can be turned on when the car is in READY mode.

 

 

Did you turn on the AC outlet button? It should be to the left of where the Odometer button is.
