Hi Sienna peeps!
on my 2008 toyota sienna ltd AWD

VSC/Check engine lights remaining on. It's been an off and on thing for a while. A few times seemed the gas cap click worked, but now definitely bigger issue. Drove way too many miles on it this week w/ light on for unavoidable trip. Poor Excelleration and struggled up hills (was traveling up mountain passes/higher elevations so that's somewhat expected). Reversing seems a bit off too.

Mechanic Diagnostics came back as:
Camshaft position sensor B Circuit Bank 1 and 2

CODES:
P0390 #2
P0365 #1

Not clear if this means replace/repair sensor on both Banks? And is it the same sensor part or is one part intake and the other outtake?

240K miles. I drive it like it's a land cruiser along washboard forest roads so it does get a lot of jostling 😂

I'll keep searching forum, but any info is much appreciated especially since repair seems diy doable for me ~ Thanks in advance!

P0365 and P0390 are sensor B for banks 1 and 2. IIRC that’s both exhaust (outtake?) cams. Strange both throw faults at the same time. Reset codes and check for codes as soon as you can when the CEL comes on.

Those codes typically mean bad sensor or wiring problem. I don’t know whether they share circuitry in the ECU for a single failure to throw both codes. Maybe they’re adjacent pins at some connector that’s subject to corrosion. Maybe they share a ground. I’d hate to spend money on two Denso sensors if the sensors you have aren’t the problem. Starting at the sensors, unplug the connectors, inspect them, spray with electronic parts cleaner then reconnect firmly. Follow the wires to the next connector/s until you reach the ECU or lose the wires in a bundle.

VSC (and traction control and ABS) lights are likely related to the cam sensor faults. Focus on the cam sensors.

Thanks so much Sixto (ignore my last reply - didn't see you post) you answered exactly what I was asking again. I just went out and, not even knowing which was the cam, wiggled some wires and VSC went out so hoping just old wiring. it looks pretty weathered in there.

Both banks having a problem is unusual. As always, when weird sensor problems crop up, I would check the battery, alternator and terminals. If you had a 3MZ, I'd be leaning towards a timing belt, but you have a 2GR. It IS possible that the timing chain is worn, but that's highly unlikely. If it's not the charging system, my guess is wiring.
