Hello All,

I've been tracking the mileage in my 2024 Limited AWD since I picked it up at the end of October 2023. I wanted to see how accurate the Distance to Empty is compared to my average Trip odometer between fill ups. Now that I've taken it in for the first service, I think there's enough data in the spreadsheet to share with the group. Over 6 months and 5000 miles (and a crummy Wisconsin winter), I have averaged 30.7mpg.
A few notes:
The tires' cold PSI was 35psi when I picked it up from the dealer and I haven't touched it since. I want to leave it as a baseline and let the pressure change with temperature. Pressure only dropped to 34 on some of the coldest days of winter, now in April they've been around 37 in the mornings.
I have left the van in "Normal" drive mode (except for 1 day), and I intend to for a full year. On the purchase anniversary, I will switch to "Eco" mode and gather another year's worth of data. This should hopefully help clear up the Normal vs Eco mode efficiency questions. I haven't decided if I'll spend a 3rd year in "Sport" mode.
My daily commute is only 3 miles one way- not really long enough to heat everything up. The winter was mild enough I was able to get by with just the heated seats and occasional defroster- I tried to avoid using the HVAC.
I don't venture too far beyond the first tick in the "power" section of the energy meter- that's what's needed to keep up with traffic around me. Trying to keep it in the eco section can be too slow most days.
For consistency in the manual calculation, I try to run the tank down to the same level and fill to the same level. Unless I want a full tank for a longer trip, I try wait until the day I receive the low fuel warning to fill up. (see https://www.siennachat.com/threads/...e-wait-is-over-i-did-it-ran-out-of-gas-in-g4-dtcs-p107b-p0087.75642/post-464999 for reasons not to go past.) My low fuel warning comes on with about 25 miles to empty.
When I fill up, I do top off the tank (twice). My assumption here is it will bring the gas to almost the same level regardless of gas station/pump/flow rate. I let the nozzle run at full speed until it shuts off. Wait ten or more seconds, turn the nozzle on the lowest setting until it shuts off. Wait ten or more seconds, turn the nozzle on the lowest setting until it shuts off again. Then divide the trip odometer by the pump receipt gallons for my manual MPG calculation, then reset Trip A. The worse error I've seen so far is the computer estimating the MPG 4.3% higher and 3.3% lower that the manual calculation. Amazingly, the average error comes out to just 0.06% computer higher than manual.
I have noticed that the initial distance to empty after refueling is within 1 gallon's range of the resulting tank, but often swells in the middle of the tank before converging again towards the end of the tank. For example, one tank started at 569 DTE and I filled up when DTE+Trip=541, but at one point in that tank the DTE+Trip came to 614 total range. I have learned now to trust my own Estimated Range calculation instead, which showed 573 that same day.

There are a lot of calculations and some iterations/extrapolations in this sheet. I commented on most of the headers to explain what each calc is doing. Let me know if there are any questions. All my fellow data geeks, enjoy!
