I’m looking to purchase a brand new Platinum AWD Sienna. Should I wait for 9 months until the fall of 2025 to get the upgraded version Sienna AWD with the new power train with the PHEV? When will Toyota release the new 2026 model at dealerships and how much of a price increase will they be when compared to the current 2025 Platinum AWD?

The Sienna just got a mid-cycle refresh for 2025. I doubt there will be any changes for 2026.
I don’t expect big changes, but smaller ones like Safery Sense 3.0 and the option to get an upgraded PHEV engine with more horsepower. Toyota can offer that PHEV engine on the 2026 Sienna if they are already offering it on the 2025 Alphard in Japan.

I must be honest- the XLE 2025 is amazing. Lot more power than I thought. Absolutely amazing mileage. Very good to drive amazing turning ratio.

We bought the XLE white with darker rims and gray interior. I took off all the badges minus the Sienna one.

I'm really happy with it. The only thing I'm going to be changing is the speakers.

There is a rumor that the Previa will make a 2026 (re)debut as a PHEV, but I must stress, it is only a rumor and may not even be for the North American market even it is true.

If Safety Sense 3.0 was a small change, it would have made it on the 2025. I believe that there are additional sensors needed. It is not just a small change. The Sienna was essentially the same from from 21-24 with the mid-cycle refresh in 25. I would not expect any real changes until the redesign in 27 or 28.

I used to own a 2022 Lexus ES350 Ultra Luxury sedan that came with Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+. The earlier 2020 Lexus ES350 sedan came with only Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 in it. When Lexus upgraded to the 2.5+ from the 2.0, they did not add additional sensors to the vehicle. The upgrade from 2.0 to 2.5+ was more than likely made by improving the electronics or replacing the software with brand new software on the 2022 model ES350 that I used to own. My 2022 Lexus ES350 had the same exact sensors like the 2020 ES350. No additional sensors were added to the vehicle.

2.5 requires a yaw sensor. How do you know that they did not add a yaw sensor?

I wonder what engine we will get for the 5th generation Sienna. The one from the new Tacoma is powerful but Sienna is all about gas mileage now power. One thing will definitely happen, next gen Sienna will take 0w8 oil. ILSAC GF7 is also coming so we might get something even more effecient than current 0w8

I have a quick question here. Will it be against the law if Sienna's side mirrors fold when you are staying in your lane on the highway? Believe it or not, the side mirrors can create a lot of drag, upto 7% of a vehicle's total drag.

All that I know is that my 2022 ES350 had the upgraded 2.5+ Safety Sense in it. The 2020 had the 2.0 in it and Lexus updated it in 2021. I don't know what a yaw sensor is or what it does and whether it's in the 2.0 or if it's only in the 2.5+. I didn't see any additional sensors added to the bumpers or to the front grill when comparing the 2020 to the 2021 and 2022 Lexus ES350. They all looked the same and in the same exact position.
Whatever Lexus did to do the upgrade to 2.5+ from 2.0, I think that they did by adding something electronic to either a circuit board somewhere inside the vehicle or they did something with upgrading the software that controls 2.0 to make it 2.5+. What I mean is that the upgrade from 2.0 to 2.5+ was done electronically thru an upgraded circuit board or upgraded software to the existing 2.0. Maybe someone in here that knows more about this and how Lexus/Toyota upgrades 2.0 to 2.5+ and 3.0 in their vehicles can chime in on this. I mean how difficult can it be for Toyota to do an upgrade from 2.0 to 2.5+ or to 3.0.

Disclosure: I am a programmer by day job, at least I like to claim so ;). I know nothing about cars other than driving them.

2020-2023 were crazy times for making cars. They were shipping cars with missing or alternate/reduced functionality due to chips shortages. May be this was the case with yours'?

My 0.02.
TSS consists of software designed to work with other "newer" hardware like G sensors, Radars, C2C comm, and also "older" hardware like brakes, steering wheel and so on. All of it needs to be explicitly designed and tested to work together. I.e one can not take software from Car X, put it in Car Y and expect it to work. Car X and Car Y have different physical attributes, they age differently, they behave differently in various environments and so on.

In other words, if a Formula 1 driver(software) gets behind a corolla(hardware), he/she won't make it past first turn.

They must have installed additional sensors and/or software specifically designed and tested for your car for the upgrade. Some sensors are embedded in circuit boards. For example, newset phones have dozens of sensors in a piece of hardware that you can carry in your pocket, or wear it around your wrist or even fingers.

I would think that upgrading (Design, source/supplier, build, test and get it approved in all respective states and countries) Sienna's TSS would run tab in double digit millions for Toyota.

With folded mirrears the Sienna won't look like Shrek anymore, which would be a worse drag than 7%, IMO.

iirc I noticed a small mpg benefit when I was flat-towing my drift car folding my mirrors in. Like 0.5 mpg gain with mirrors folded in.

It was 20.0ish mpg not folded to like 20.5 or 20.7mpg with mirrors folded in driving down flat long stretch on I-5 to southern CA.
(Note: I was flat-towing a 2200lbs toyota corolla in my gen4). Probably not legal in CA, but I was kinda curious and way too bored with no one around me for that section of road.

I did not do grapevine with mirrors folded in. It was maybe for like a 40min stretch on 5 to get decent miles in to confirm a difference.

We bought a 2022 Sienna hybrid and love it. Do not get the advertised MPG but normally get around 30. Very comfy with 55k miles.

MPG will drop in winter weather since the engine will have to run more often and the winter gas formula is less efficient. Also, if you routinely drive on interstates over 60mph-ish, it drops off quickly. If your getting into the 75mph+ range, it drops off a lot. The best mpg will be driving around town at 30mph.

We've got a '22 XLE+ that's a handicapped conversion. Our temps have dropped to the 20s and so has the mileage. In warmer weather we approach 34. Around town I try to do about 33mph. It seems to get me through more lights without having to stop and it stays in EV mode more of the time.

Gas mileage is highly dependent on how and where you drive. I don’t think I have ever owned a car where I consistently got as good of gas mileage as the EPA estimate. That said, if I baby the gas pedal and try to drive in EV mode I can get 36-40 mpg at times. My average is probably closer to 32.

I drove to the dump today towing a 4x8’ utility trailer full of trash. I got about 31 mpg. I am happy with that.
