Power rear door won't open unless key is ON

First post here, but I've read hundreds of other posts trying to find someone else with this problem (with no luck).

I recently bought a used 2004 Sienna XLE with a power rear door (lift gate). The door will not open using the interior button, the button on the remote, or the manual latch unless the key is put in the ON position. It opens and closes fine if the key is ON (manually, with the button, or with the remote). I know this can't be right, but I can't figure out if I'm missing something obvious or if there is a problem with the van. I mean, what's the point of having a remote if the key has to be in the ignition for the remote to operate the back door?

I have traced power back to the ECU, taken virtually all of the trim off of the rear and left side of the van looking for wiring problems, and even bought a replacement rear door ECU - all to no avail. I have tried combinations of the power back door switch (by the driver's left knee) on and off, and I have followed various instructions from this site for "initializing" the door opener - no luck.

Can anyone offer any other suggestions? I will greatly appreciate any help and advice.

Problem solved! Turns out that one of the two power wires going to the power rear door ECU did not have +12V. Not sure why - I guess a wire was broken along the way somewhere since I never found any blown fuses. I soldered a jumper inside the ECU from pin 2B to pin 10A, both of which were supposed to have power all the time. Not only did this fix the power back door problem, but it also fixed the left sliding door, which also did not work automatically.
