Hi there.. I am new to this Sienna community. I know there were some discussion on RS3200 kit (security system) for siennas in the past. I couldnt find anything specific to 2008 LE models. I bought a kit from http://www.brandsport.com/toy-pt398-08070.html recently. Installed it as well. But I don't see the car knows the system is even there.. The instructions said to use Toyota scan tool to turn on the glass break sensor. Do I need to do that to even turn on the security system?

I dont think I have a hood switch in the engine compartment that trigger the alarm when the hood is opened. Do I need to get that switch for the RS3200 system to work? also, where would I find the hood switch? I looked in the engine bay, but didnt find any. Mine is a 2008 LE with 8 seats and power doors.
thanks for your help.

Dude! I've been trying to get info on this...

...is this thing both the v2 and the v5 in the same box? what's in the box?
...did the van already have the basic rs3200 alarm to start with? ( not the unlock/lock thingy nor the panic button )

Thanks a bunch

I dont know about V2 and V5. The box consist of few wiring connectors, few foam tapes, and a small plastic module thats called the glass break sensor. My vehicle already have power doors and power locks. The remote buttons are: lock, unlock, panic, open slide door left, open slide door right.

From my research, I thought the RS3200 is already built into the car, but not activated. I thought installing this kit will turn on the RS3200. I guess I was wrong.. I called the online outfit sold me the kit, and they are clue less...

Hi this confused guy is back again...

I checked out my manual and read the part about the intrusion thingy. I got a 4runner with the rs3200 to compared with... So it locks/unlocks, has the magic chip in the key, honking alarms if you open a door without a key ( open window, manually unlock, open door ); THAT'S AN ALARM! the only difference with my 4runner is that it doesn't have the Glass Breakage thingy; that thing was worthless. I guess it's in there...as standard feature??? Now does any one have the proximity module?

From my vague recollection of the previous discussions:

-Activating the the security system is just a software adjustment that must be done by the dealer.
-adding the glass break sensor is the only physical item that can be added.
-you can have the security system with or without the glass break sensor, but if you add the GBS you need to have it activated in addition to the "security system"

I recall someone with a canadian CE that had the dealer activate the security system. He did not have the GBS but saw the option to turn it on/off in the software. NO HARDWARE NECESSARY.

This is my thought on 2004+ siennas reguarding security. From what I remember. Google "thumbs up" :)

2004,2005,2006. You can add a security system OR a security with GBS (glass breakage sensor)
2007,2008,2009,2010(?) You can only add a GBS.

From what I have run across the basic security is activated at time of install. IF you install anything with a GBS it must be activated via the dealer.

Yes you can turn on the security system (GBS) at any time. But if you do not install the GBS and activate it..... Well that's like turning on your headlights without any bulbs.

I was looking into trying to get a security system for my 2004 last year. I hope that I did not make more confusing...

Thanks the replies folks.. So, I could have just activated the already installed RS3200 system instead of buying the GBS ? Now that I got the GBS kit installed, what should ask the dealer to do? activate RS3200 or activate GBS? will they charge separate for both? any info on how much they will charge for something like this? Its probably less than 5 mins job to activate with their hand held tool..

Now does any one have the proximity module?
AFAIK, there is no "proximity module" for the FACTORY security system....but I am not up-to-date on the "latest" official Toyota accessories.
Many hi-end aftermarket security systems offer a proximity module, but IME, many installers dislike them because they have a tendency to "false" and are very temperamental. Temperature variations in the environment will affect their effectiveness. It may or may not be possible to "add-on" a proximity module to a factory system, but it would likely require the availability of "inputs" into the central alarm "brain".....just as a GBS add-on does....it is just an additional "sensor".

I used to have one in my '85 Honda Prelude with an aftermarket security system when such things were somewhat new on the market.....it was more pain/hassle than it was worth. I also had a GBS too. Neither of them "worked" properly and tended to "false", or even NOT trigger when they should have. Perhaps the technology has improved since then....IDK. ??? ??? ???

Even with such add-on modules, you are NOT going to deter a determined smash-&-grab thief. If they see something inside the car that they think is worth taking, they will if they have enough time/opportunity.....it only takes all of maybe 10 seconds to smash a window and grab whatever it is they want and then they are "gone".

A security system is more apt to foil a "casual" CAR thief, but a real "pro" will still be able to steal the entire car if, again, given enough time/opportunity.

YMMV.
Good Luck!! 8)

All you have added to your van is a GBS.(v2 and V5) are just the parts for the GBS (wiring and sensor itself)

My belief is that your van already has the base alarm? That's why only a GBS is available for your van.

You just want the dealer to activate the GBS. From my research this is through "customization features" that only the dealer can perform. By the looks of it. simple job...5 mins

Re: RS3200 Kit Question - Conclusion

I took the van to the dealership today to see what they can do with the RS3200 GBS system I installed. They charged $110 to hook up their computer. They turned on the security system and Glass Break Sensor with the hand held unit they have. Now, I have alarm in my car. And better yet, it is OEM... so no extra remotes to mess with...

$110.00 to set it up??? I just installed this unit on my brothers van. Dealer only charged $40.00. Going back to the place that you got the unit from. You payed $134.77 + shipping and another $110.00 to the dealer.
What was the quote to install from the dealer?

I dunno.....but it sounds like it should really only take maybe 5mins to do....so they should maybe charge you 15-30mins for "labor" as a minimum.
Looks like they ran you up for maybe 1hr of "labor" anyway, or charged it as a "1hr-minimum diagnostic fee". ???   :'(

I am not at all agreeing with teh $110 they charged me.. I think it is a rip off for a 5 mins job. It was more like, "If we have to use the computer, then it is $110"... thats what you get for living in norther virginia.

I bought the unit from www.brandsport.com. They are a rip off.. they told me I will not need a program from the dealer to activate.. I didnt know what I know now. If I did, I would have just got this from the dealer..

when I talked to one dealer, they were telling me it cost $350 to install the RS3200 kit in my van, then $200 to do glass break sensor. This was total BS since there is no RS3200 kit for 2008 sienna.. it is the GBS kit thats added to the RS3200 system already in the car..

I paid $124 for GBS and $110 for activation.. I guess I would have paid more if I asked for security system when I bought the van new last year.
