i have a 2006 XLE Limited. The passenger side sliding door will close most of the way but stops at the final stage that pulls the door in for the final latch. It doesn’t open again and it will close if we bump the door closed. I’ve searched the forums and haven’t seen a solution to this problem.

After reading some of the posts in this thread, my problem seems very minor, but I guess I'll ask about it anyway. The power door on my '08 LE works fine except after it hasn't been used for a while, I have to pull really hard on the outside door handle to get it to operate. Anybody know if it's a stretched cable, a bad contact, or something else? I'm not sure what triggers it to open the door.

Some good advice here regarding cleaning and applying silicone spray on the tracks and penetrating oil on the hinges: 2011 Toyota Sienna power sliding door Unlatches but...

Thanks for the response, kottmeier. I don't think it will help with my issue, though. Mine opens fine, whether triggered by pushing the one of the buttons inside, or pulling really hard on the outside door handle; it's just not getting the signal to open the door from pulling the handle sometimes.

New to me `09 LE side door won`t open all the way. I`ve replaced the cables and all automatic operation is good. The blue arrow in this pic shows a gear drive that never moves. It controls the finger that sticks out on the bottom latch that prevents the door from opening all the way. If I don`t hold it out of the way manually (yes, I know I`m at risk of losing a finger:) then I`m afraid it will break the cables again, or maybe automatically reverse? What is this finger on the bottom latch

for and can i just disable it?

Sienna (2007) sliding door-drivers side slider opened only about 10 inches. After reading here and elsewhere, found no issue with fuel door linkage. Tried opening and closing window, lock/unlock. Nothing seemed to help. Thankfully, before I cut cables, I carefully muscled door beyond stop point. It worked, I heard some slight grinding from the partly frayed cable on outer pulley, but I think some wd-40 and minor trimming of filaments will help. Now, I feel greatly relieved.

I would suggest you to change the sliding door to manual mode. I have been lubricating my power sliding door regularly (it lasted 15 years) and the cable on the passenger side finally broke a few weeks back. Luckily it did not stuck.

Thanks, will do that! For the past 6 months, i'd been tolerating the door only opening a short distance, even in manual mode. At the time, i googled about the problem, thinking about the best approach before getting to it. I confirmed there was no problem with the gas door linkage. I had considered clipping the cables, but didn't want to go drastic. And i dreaded doing a full cable/motor replacement. The other day i had time to focus on the door again; i tried opening/closing the window a few times, locking/unlocking the door - based on something i had read suggesting that might help free up the interior mechanism. Then, sitting in the drivers seat and thinking , i hit the door button to open, and voila it opened further than it had before! Then i jumped out, went manual and gently muscled the door to fully open. My conclusion was lubrication and trimming the frays will help the door not encounter snags. Plus, i agree going manual will help prevent cable from fully breaking.

I think that function is to prevent the door from opening all the way if the window is down, so passengers don't get their arms broken. Could also be related to the gas fill hatch.

Did you ever find a solution to this? I have the right side door getting almost closed, then it sounds like it impacts the body of the van at the rear of the opening then it reverses. If I nudge it right at the end it will close. I have lubricated everything I can reach with white lithium grease but doesn't seem to help. Trying to avoid taking the whole thing apart.

First, I am new to car repairs, I know next to nothing. Second, I would appreciate any help. I have a 2010 Sienna XLE. The driver side sliding door cable snapped a couple years ago and now the passenger side closed one day and will no longer open. Using the FOB or the inside buttons, or the handle will produce a grinding sound but the door will not budge at all. Doesn't even seem to disengage from the lock. I have changed to manual with no change. From YouTube videos I've seen, you have to remove the inside door handle panel to disengage the lock. HOWEVER, the door is stuck shut with no way to get to the screw. Any ideas? Thank you!

You have to remove the little cover at the bottom, back corner of the vent window on that side of the car. Under that, you will find a braided cable. You cut that cable and it should allow the door to work in full-manual mode. It's not hard, if you want to tackle it yourself. Given the failure rate of the sliding door cable, there are probably thousands of videos on YouTube on how to do it. If you took it to a trusted mechanic, I can't imagine them charging more than $50, unless they have a minimum shop fee of 1 hour.

New to car repair as well, looking to fix my passenger side power door. The door functions properly manually, opens and closes with no issue. When I press the inside power door button or pull the handle from the outside, I can hear the motor react and try to open the door but nothing happens. 2008 Sienna LE AWD. Any suggestions on what might be wrong?

I would guess a previous failure resulted in someone cutting the cable to use it in full-manual mode OR it just happened to snap perfectly and not get tangled up so it works in manual mode. The fix is to remove the door panel and replace the coil of cable and the pully mechanism at the bottom back of the vent window and then it should work, assuming nothing else was damaged due to the poor design.

Any reason I cannot just remove the entire power sliding option. So it functions like my driver's door. Just a manual slider. I have a 2004 LE AWD and use it for camping and adventures. I looked for some references but everything I find is repair. Thanks. Rod

IMO this is what most people are doing after the original system fails.

I literally just cut the wire, and have been using the door manually for years, I didn't remove or disconnect anything else.
edit: I wanted to clarify... I cut the "wire" meaning the cable that physically opens/closes the door(s), because its the pulley system that fails and this cable becomes dislodged from the tracks and it sort of spits the cable out all over the place.

I can't find exactly when, but I have been using it like this for at least 5 years, since I know that the door failed when we owned our prior home and we have been in this house for just over 5 years.

Yup. Cut the cable (sounds like yours is already cut). I would take the extra step of turning off the power door option switch by the driver's left knee so it doesn't try to activate every time someone pulls the handle or pushes the button though. The "last inch" power option will still function, so it will pull the door in once you get it to the latch. That's a super nice feature, since the extra weight of the power mechanism makes it harder for the little ones to get fully closed.

Anyone seen video or at least something to completely remove passenger sliding door? I need to remove some rust and paint near the rear right wheel. As well change the door rubber sealant, or how it's called. It got rust at the bottom as well

My door works just fine. I have it turned off too. What I really want to do is remove all the power junk to make it work like my normal drivers side door. 100% manual. No auto open or that darn finish closing itself when I almost closed. I adventure and camp out of it (weekend warrior) type. It is my Tacoma Van. The manual door opens and closes perfect and the power door feel heavy and slow - like I am going to pull the handle off at times.
