Hi,
Since scout gps and other apps are not supported by Toyota anymore, I am wondering is there any navigation app that will display the map?
What navigation options are available, if any.
I know that the apple aps work but I have Samsung and won't switch to apple only because of it.

Thanks
Alfred

I go old school, like this:

And this:

This approach has the added advantages of allowing placement right in front of you on the dash, like a heads up display, and the ability to move it from car to car. And for a fixed up-front cost with free lifetime map updates and traffic alerts my current unit (nuvi 2555LMT) is still going strong at 9+ years old. You would need to research which models, if any, still come with the free updates.

It also occurs to me that having a dedicated GPS unit frees up the screen one would otherwise use, whether phone or vehicle. I would not encourage f*cking with a phone or screen while driving, in fact it makes me angry when I see it, but there is utility in changing settings while idling or having a passenger do it.

I have never really used the Toyota nav program. I do happen to have an Apple phone and CarPlay in my '18. I do have the CarPlay map showing most of the time, but for navigation I tend to rely more on my Garmin that sits on the left side of the dash.

Most of my needs for 'navigation' involve finding my way to specific locations (for work) or for pleasure destinations. Either of those are likely saved as waypoints. Not sure if that is even possible on the Toyota nav system as I have never tried.

As others have mentioned, Garmin has several different models with different screen sizes and features. Just look for "LMT" in the model number, that will give you Lifetime Maps and Traffic.
