I have a HK4 hardwire kit for Viofo 229 plus dash cam. Where would be the best place to connect the Battery and Acc on the fuse box under panel of the driver side?

Thanks

I found a youtube video that shows the wires and what each one is on the blue connector. Did a screen shot and labeled the wires.

Keep in mind that the wires are 12v and the dashcam is 5v. I bought these adapters and wired it in with the supplied USB plug from the camera. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07594WT6K

Everything is tucked back into the headliner and worked out perfect.

I did not cut the wires out from the blue connector. I tapped the wires about 2 inches away from the blue connector by splitting the insulation on each wire and exposing the copper. I used a tool like this that pulls the insulation apart: https://www.amazon.com/Self-Adjusting-Stripper-Klein-Tools-11061/dp/B00CXKOEQ6

It wouldn't hurt to cut the wires if you need to. If you're against cutting the wires, you can also use a razor blade or utility knife to shave away some of the insulation or use wire taps like these: https://www.amazon.com/Connectors-Solderless-Electrical-Certificated-Stripping/dp/B0C9D6LW7Y

After I tapped the wires, I taped it up separately, with some 3M electrical tape before taping all of them together.

One more way. In the link sau gave above, the user openwide gave some details about buying a plug\parts that can fit into the blue connector.

I'll start with the parts that are needed.
Pormido Hardwire kit: LINK
Toyota F-Connector Housing: LINK
Female Pin Connector: LINK

On the blue accessory plug, there are 3 wires that goes into it with the orientation being: BLACK (12V Always On), PINK (12V Ignition), EMPTY SPACE, and then WHITE w/ BLACK STRIP (Ground).
PICTURE OF BLUE PLUG

On the Pormido hardwire kit, there are 3 wires: YELLOW (12V Always On), RED (12V Ignition), and BLACK (Ground). The yellow and red wires comes connected to fuse splicing connectors, and the ground wire has a grounding terminal. Cut off all of these things from all three wires. And then attach the Female Pin connector to each wire.

Test fit the empty F-Connector into the Blue Accessory Plug and make note of orientation of the plug. Now take the Pormido hardwires with the newly attached female pins on, and push them into the F-connector in the same orientation as how you want the wires to match up with the wires on the Blue Accessory Plug. YELLOW (hardwire) to BLACK (blue plug), RED (hardwire) to PINK (blue plug), SKIP ONE SPACE AND LEAVE EMPTY, and the BLACK (hardwire) to WHITE/BLACK STRIP (blue plug).

Plug everything in and now you're done.

Goodluck with everything. It was fairly easy and straight forward. I wish someone had written up a detailed instructions like this when I was doing it. I had to piece meal together from a bunch of different posts on the forums to figure everything out. Cheers!

I thought I got it done, but……

1) see attached picture, I got a female connector from the dealer, 2.54mm pin and cigarette adapter. I connected the cigarette adapter‘s wires to black and red of the blue connector. Suddenly, the car’s ignition turned on by itself! Later on, the check engine light on the dash came on.

any suggestions

The blue connector is to supply power to the dash cam. In that connector, there is a ground wire, a power wire when the car is on, a power wire when the car is off. The colors listed in an above post. The power wires to your dash cam can be connected to these wires. Many dash cams require two power wires- one when the car is on for normal continuous operation and one when the car is off for parking mode. All this power comes from the blue connector. There is no need for any other power connection.

What you did: It seems like you connected the always on power to the cigarette lighter plug (which is not powered when the car is off). This backfed power to the fuse block and as a result powered things on in the car that normally should be off. There should be no connection between the blue plug and the cigarette lighter plug. In fact, there should be no need for the cigarette lighter power for the dash cam if you are using the blue plug.

by doing what you suggested, do I get power both during ignition mode as well as engine off/ parking mode? I did not buy the HK4 hardwire kit, I am using the supplied power cord and male cigarette adapter! By doing red to pink(from blue connector) and black to black/ white( from blue connector), does it only supply power with ignition on? Note: the black and red wires are from the female cigarette adapter! Thanks
