Just purchased our second Sienna. We put 55K miles on a 2011 Sienna XLE. It was great. We moved to Alaska and need AWD so we traded and got a 2013 XLE AWD. The rear lift gate does not seem to be a power lift gate like our 2011. This isn't a base version its a loaded XLE with all the bells and whistles...like our '11.

I haven't toyed around with it yet. My wife took it to the dealer today and they dorked around with it for an hour and finally told her the "2013s don't have that option." I'm calling B.S. on this and before I get upset, I want to ask the masses. I figure it needs to be programmed or something but I can't get home to investigate for another few hours.

So I decided to post a thread for help and hopefully by time I get to it tonight someone on here would have posted an answer to my issue.

My 2013 XLE has power lift gate. Is there a button in the tail gate that has the switch/button in your XLE?
There is the "close" button on the inside of the gate. It works fine. The problem is the handle/button on the outside. When it is press the gate opens, but doesn't lift like our '11 Sienna did.

Underneath your rear hatch, just left of the center, is there a square black button? That's the button I pushed to power close the door. If you have one, then it should be powered.
It power closes just fine...it's the opening action we are attempting to figure out.

Is that the post from your wife?

It describes better the problem.
Coaster, it is indeed the spouse. She is so much better than I. LOL

It works just fine. It is not supposed to open slowly if you use the grab handle to open the lift gate. To mimic that behavior you will need to use your remote to open.

If it power closes then I can't see it not having power lift. In the ceiling mount fixture near your mirror, there should be open button for your rear hatch. Do you have that? I have open buttons for my left and right sliding door and in the middle it is the button for the rear hatch.
Exactly what we are thinking!

Yep. have those buttons and if you hit them the gate will power lift...like its suppose to. The gate will powerlift from the key fob too. But if you have your hands full with groceries and/or kids, sometimes you can't get to the fob. That's where the 2011 model was great. We simply had to press the buttom on/under the handle and step back.

We are trying to determine if the 2013s are wired for that specific feature.

I believe its customized settings, ask your dealership to configure it "press the button on/under the handle"
We did and the dealer said that it's no longer an option....which i just find hard to believe. So we brought the question to the masses.

If you guy/gals say, "Hey, mine does/doesn't do that" then I would feel better either way.

So who owns a '13 model?

2013 XLE owner here. Power liftgate open is through the keyfob or interior button. If you lift the handle on the outside of the door, you have to open it manually. I like this feature, as I find the power opening too slow most times, but it is nice those few times my hands are full.
Yeah that's when its the most handy...when hands and arms are full. This was a great feature on our '11 but I guess thee isn't a way to get it on the '13s. I wonder if there a way to program it? I need some very smart Toyota techs to figure this out. Its def possible because the all the electronics and equipment is in place.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Really appreciate it.

If your hands are too full to press remote button they are probably too full to press handle button anyway.;)
Uh not true. One hand/arm could be full of groceries...leaving one hand free. Key could be in opposite pocket or purse. Being able to take your free hand, tap the button (like the '11 version) is great. Especially for those smaller, shorter female owners.

Hahaha. I wondered about that too. I have 2012 Sienna XLE; power lift gates are standard. The power lift does not engage on the tailgate handle switch. It only activates the power unlatch. You manually have to open it. It does not take a lot of effort though, to lift the gate manually since the shocks are still strong. I have not decided yet if this is the best feature for that exterior switch. Would like to hear from anyone if this handle switch setting can be changed to activate the power lift.
