So has anyone figured out how to program the 11-12 sienna remote?
Yes! Unfortunately I was not able to do it "manually", using only the instructions given in the original post. I get the impression that the manual procedure works up to 2010 but not for 2011 and later. But I still wanted to do it myself, so I broke down and bought a mini-VCI cable and techstream software (it is as cheap as $20 shipped from aliexpress.com). It took some effort to figure out the software but I was eventually able to connect my laptop to my 2011 sienna using the mini-VCI cable and program a couple of used remotes I had picked up on ebay.

In case anyone goes this route, a couple of pointers:

  • The techstream software that comes with the cable requires a 32-bit operating system like XP. If you are running a 64-bit version of windows 7 (like me), you will need to first install a 32-bit virtual machine (I used microsoft "XP mode"), and then install the techstream software on the virtual machine.
  • If you do use XP mode, after connecting the cable to the USB port of the laptop you must transfer the USB connection from the main OS to the virtual OS by a pull-down tab from the top of the XP mode window (something like "attach mini-VCI").
  • Buried inside the techstream software is a wizard to step you through the process of programming the remote, I don't remember where it was exactly but I had to dig around for it. I think it might be something like "main body > utilities > wireless registration" or something similarly non-informative.

Can I use the same fob from my 03 Corolla on the Sienna? I am not worried about the security aspect as the vehicles are kept unlocked in the garage so fob isn't used at home, only when vehicles are away from the house.

Ok, I have tried these instructions a million times on my 05 XLE and they just do NOT work! After going through the process, the van never enters programming mode. I am positive I am following the instructions properly. Yes, I am going past ACC to the ON position but that isn't helping at all.

I guess I'll bring it into the dealer. I really hope they don't want to charge me a fortune for what should be a simple thing!

Need a spare set of a remote and key......

Thinking of buying this one : http://www.ebay.com/itm/2004-2010-T...otors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model:Sienna&hash=item4613db45a2&vxp=mtr

And this key blank: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-03-10-g...odel:Sienna|Submodel:LE|Engine+-+Liter_Display:3.5L&hash=item565b3be121&vxp=mtr

Where can I get the blank cut at?
I am "handy" and decent with electrical/electronics can I program the key myself if I get it cut somewhere? Sounds like the fob I can do based on the posted instructions.

Thanks for any help.

The 4D-67 is the correct blank with RFID chip. You can get it cut to match your existing key at any hardware store (my True Value charged me $2), but then you have to program the security system to accept the chip's code.

I had no problems at all getting the security system to accept the key. I need to take another run at getting the remote fob to work.

I just wanted to say thanks to the original poster for the great instructions. I changed the battery in one of my remotes and then it stopped working. It wasn't until I saw this thread that I figured out the problem and got it working again.

First time posting on here and came to find the solution to our new keyfob ordered off of Amazon from amazingkeys.com. I tried this exactly and it worked the first time no problem on our 2005 Sienna XLE Ltd. I thought the power doors and hatch were not working when first programmed but then realized I didn't hit unlock twice after the first try, thereby unlocking all doors and hatch, once I hit unlock twice then the power doors and hatch button on the newly programmed fob worked like a charm. Awesome!

Is it toyota policy that every Sienna comes with one key and one key fob remote? The 2013 that we just purchased has only one. Our local Toyota parts guy quoted me $188 to purchase and have a key fob programmed. I bought a remote on line ($25) and purchased two keys for $5 from a lock smith, but he wasn't able to program the remote for me.

To revive from the dead....

After owning the vehicle for 3+ years, I've just noticed that If I press the unlock button once on the key fob (non-smart key), it unlocks both the driver's door and the driver's side rear sliding door. Is this the default setting on it? Is there any way to just unlock the driver door only with one press?

I've got a 2012 Sienna XLE (non smart key)

Just bought a 2016 Sienna L on Tuesday. We got 3 simple keys from the dealer, and no remote. The salesman cautioned us that the key with the little metal tag stamped with a number would be the only way to get a new key or (I'm assuming) a remote.

I didn't think this was a big deal (I can use a regular key to open a door), but then discovered that the driver's side door is the only door with a key slot.

What are the OEM options here for a remote? Must the fob be programmed at the dealer on a 2016?

My 2015 LE does the same, I like it because as a driver it gives me the option of which to open, without forcing me to open all the doors (where someone on the other side of the vehicle could suddenly open a door , grab and run off with something while parked on a busy city street by the sidewalk.
