Grab with two hands and pull hard on the front half. It is basically two clips that pull straight down. The rear of the console has a lip, sort of like a hinge. So make sure you pull down from the very front.

On a side note I tried to tap into that plug with my dashcam but I'm not getting power. Let me know if you find sucess.

 

There's a guy that figured out to power his dashcam from that overhead plug. I just bought the factory camera, so I didn't have to deal with this...haha

 

Yes I tried it and bought the adapter but could not get power from the plug in the overhead console.

I was measured the voltage, it's 14v when the engine starts.

I have that plug but for some reason I have no power coming to the overhead console plug. I even tried to tap the wire directly and no power. Feels like my plug (in the overhead console) is not getting any power.

 

I was having the same issue with not getting power to that plug. I figured it was just my janky wiring job that was causing the issue. I haven't had time to test it with the multimeter yet.

 

The tolerances are pretty tight. You need to make sure you're using the right diameter female pins and that they are FULLY seated in the connector to ensure proper contact. Also I know I messed up once and wired the plug in reverse and had to redo it.

 

I tried to directly plug each pin to the connectors without the clip. I still could not get it to work. I will have to do more testing but it was taking up too much time to figure it out. Dealer claims there is power so I must be doing something wrong.

I’m seeking a solution for interior lighting problem. I’m talking about the lighting controlled by the “on, off, door “ switch on overhead console. All other switches in the console (doors, tailgate sunroof) are working.

Toyota service said there was power to the console. I needed a new console. I secured a console from a used part dealer. Popped it in. Same issue. Would control everything BUT the interior lights.

Do console lights work in 'manual mode'? i.e. when you manually press them?
if they do not -- double check whether the red wire coming to the panel has +12V to start with...
